Rina Kahananui comes from a noble family on Kauai and was sent to live with her aunt, who is a high priestess of her own coven in Namaka’s Glen. Kauai’s witch community is much smaller and her parents hope for better opportunity for her on Oahu. Rina is more in love with the idea of being in love and does not want to marry for status, despite knowing she would disappoint her parents. Her aunt is much more sympathetic regarding Rina’s wants, and allows her to live and work at Hearse & Harrow. Rina hides her wealth and status as much as she can, thinking her friends would judge her for it.

MARINE

Chase became Shelley’s enemy when he was rude to her at the last Marine Ball to impress his friends and she’ll never forget it, even though he was only mean to her to save his own embarrassment from finding ‘the weird girl’ attractive. They met again 3 years later when he’s doing a deep dive into Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein after discovering the doctor was based on Giovanni Aldini, who killed himself in the asylum in Hawaii that had reopened as an inn. It was covered up and claimed he died in Milan.
